Fire Service Emergency Cover (FSEC)

The Fire Service Emergency Cover (FSEC) Toolkit is essential for assisting the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service in preparing the Island Safety Plan, also known as the IRMP. Its primary purpose is to aid in allocating RESPONSE resources and targeting PREVENTION activities, including Home Fire Safety Checks.


What is FSEC?  

Fire Service Emergency Cover (FSEC) Toolkit is a computer system that helps the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service:

  • To evaluate the risks of fire and other incidents on the Isle of Wight.

  • To allocate responses that are commensurate with the identified risks.

  • To forecast the effectiveness of any activities aimed at mitigating or reducing these risks.

 
How does it work?  

Using information from various sources, FSEC can be used to estimate the risk of injury or death and the extent of damage to property from fire and other incidents.

FSEC uses a Geographical Information System (GIS) based on Ordinance Survey maps to show areas with different levels of risk.

Sources of Information  

  • The location of Fire Stations, fire engines, and other Fire Service vehicles.

  • Historical data regarding the location and type of past incidents.

  • Information from the Census and Valuation Office.

  • Calculations of fire behavior and damage potential.

  • Fire Safety data pertaining to business premises, hospitals, and public buildings.
